Sudanese School Fund

There is a school in Sudan that meets under a tree, that has no books, and where the children use charcoal from the fire for chalk. Our friend Panther Bior, featured in the National Geographic Film God Grew Tired of Us, wants to change that.

Sudanese School Fund

Panther Bior is one of the twenty-seven thousand "Lost Boys" of Sudan. He was a survivor of the Muslim Sudanese government's massacre of hundreds of thousands of Christians who lived in southern Sudan in the late 1980s. Panther escaped with his life---only because he was far from his home watching cattle when his village was attacked. He trekked barefoot across hundreds of miles of barren desert to a Kenyan refugee camp in 1992. Ten years later Panther was relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which is where we came to know him.

Even though Panther has escaped Sudan, his heart breaks for the children who are still suffering in his native land. The 2,700 children who live in his home village of Mareng meet under a tree for their schooling. They have no books, and they use charcoal from the fire for chalk. However, they are blessed to have teachers who are all former refugees who received an education in the Kenyan refugee camps. They teach kindergarten through 8th grade. Panther's vision is to raise funds to build a school for them, and provide books and other school materials.

Please help us provide an education that offers hope for a better future for the children of Mareng, Sudan!
