Christian Widows Fund
			I Was Hungry helps a growing number of Christian widows each month. Most can find only seasonal fieldwork for about one dollar a day, and they struggle to survive, especially widows with children.

Christian Widows

In developing nations, losing a husband can be a guarantee of lifetime poverty. Christian widows in rural areas of India find themselves laboring ten to twelve hours a day in fields owned by others just to earn a meager income—and only during seedtime and harvest. Younger Christian widows with children at home find life even more difficult.

Some of the widows supported by I Was Hungry have been cast out of their communities or families because of their decision to follow Christ. Their own grown children ignore them. Fellow Christians in their churches share what little they have, but it is difficult for impoverished people to help other impoverished people. They are among the poorest in the world, living in huts with mud walls and floors and thatched roofs. These Christian widows have no one to support them but us.

One of these such widows is Kochumole Velayudhan. She was a Hindu, but her son married a Christian woman, and they moved in with Kochumole. Some time afterwards, Kochumole was afflicted with a stomach tumor, and her daughter-in-law shared with her how Jesus healed people. Kochumole was not receptive, but whenever her daughter-in-law left for work, she would pick up the Bible she left behind and read the stories about Jesus healing people. One day she stopped reading and prayed, "Lord Jesus, if it is true, please heal me."

That night Kochumole had a dream of Jesus coming down to earth and healing her. The next morning she woke up and her stomach felt better. She gave her life to the Lord right then. When she went to her doctor, he confirmed that her tumor was gone.

Now Kochumole goes house to house and shares the gospel. One of her converts is another widow who is also supported each month through the Widows Fund.

The Widows Fund also seeks to help Christian widows become self-sustaining by means of small grants for business start-ups. We've helped widows become self-sufficient by enabling them to start fruit and vegetable stands, buffalo milk dairies, goat raising businesses, and fast food "restaurants." This is pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father, to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world (Jas. 1:27).

100% of everything we recieve for the Christian Widows Fund is used to sustain Christian widows in India and Pakistan.
